The new herd of European bison that was released in May in the Țarcu Mountains, Romania, now has a new member: a calf! The newborn is doing very well and as you can see from the photo it is already exploring the beautiful nature of the Southern Carpathians rewilding area. The little one was born in the night between 13 and 14 June and just recently our local colleagues and the bison rangers could say: “It’s a boy!”
Rewilding Europe and US-based The WILD Foundation have extended their partnership agreement by signing a “Collaborative Conservation Agreement” for 2014–2015.

The exhibition, on show June 13–15, in the city of Tulcea, Romania, is a core part of the third edition of the Pelicam Film Festival. The opening event will take place on Friday, June 13, at 17.00, at Casa Avramide, Tulcea.
Today, on World Environment Day, Rewilding Europe signed an agreement about joint practical efforts together with the Large Carnivore Initiative of Europe. The two organisations are going to work together over the coming years exploring pragmatic, practical ways to live side by side with these at times a bit difficult neighbours.
The first video footage from a trap camera monitoring setup, has confirmed that beavers are again breeding in the Danube Delta in Romania, after an absence of almost 200 years.
Rewilding Europe is beginning to offer opportunities for internships within the field of rewilding and nature conservation topics, starting in the summer of 2014 in four of our rewilding areas: Danube Delta (Romania), Southern Carpathians (Romania), Velebit (Croatia) and Western Iberia (Spain/Portugal).
Today, 17 European bison were released into the wild in Romania’s Southern Carpathian Mountains. They were invited here by the people of the Municipality of Armeniș, who have set aside a large part of their communal land for wildlife. The animals came from wildlife parks and breeding stations across Europe – from Sweden in the north to central Italy. In all a complicated logistical operation, arranged by Rewilding Europe and its partner WWF Romania. The largest-ever bison reintroduction in Europe.
Rewilding Europe is excited to announce that on 25 March 2014, the Supervisory Board accepted Odile Rodríguez de la Fuente as a new board member. Odile was already supporting our initiative as a Special Advisor, but is now going to take a more active role and a responsibility in our initiative through her new role.
