Rewilding Europe’s Staffan Widstrand guides Dutch TV and receives a high award

September 13, 2012

The Dutch TV company Endemol filmed Staffan Widstrand, Marketing Director of Rewilding Europe, guiding the Dutch TV presenter Martijn Krabbé on an action-filled visit to the Western Iberia rewilding area, for the TV programme “Kanjers Van Goud” (“Heroes of Gold”). This TV programme is connected to the Dutch Postcode Lottery, and will be broadcasted later this year.

Martijn Krabbé and Staffan Widstrand witnessed the release of a flock of Garrano horses and a flock of Sayaguesa cattle into the dehesa landscape, visited vulture-watching hides, checked out the ancient rock carvings of the Côa valley at night and stayed at the newly built guesthouse in Campanarios de Azaba.

During the final interview, in Castelo Rodrigo, Martijn Krabbé presented a quite surprised Staffan Widstrand with the very honourable ”Gouden Wimpel” (the Golden Streamer), the highest award from the Dutch Postcode Lottery. A little streamer-needle from pure gold is only given to a limited few people, for their long and devoted service to nature and mankind. Quite a moving moment for Staffan, especially when he was told that only very few non-Dutch people had ever received this famous award during the 14 years of its’ existence, among them Nelson Mandela and Bill Clinton!

The nearly 30 minutes TV documentary about Rewilding Europe in the Western Iberia rewilding area in Spain and Portugal will be broadcasted on Dutch TV in November this year. We will keep you posted on the specific broadcasting date and time!
