The Rewilding Europe initiative is growing very fast – in areas, activities and ambitions, but also in numbers of supporters and enthusiastic fans, especially among young people. Our stand at the WILD10 in October in Salamanca, Spain was crowded all the time and many of the visitors wondered how they could become rewilding volunteers and asking how they could help Rewilding Europe.
European bison, or Wisent, were brought to the Studen Kladenets Game Reserve in the Eastern Rhodope Mountains in Bulgaria at the end of October. This is the first step of the first reintroduction of European bison into the Rhodopes, an area which is one of the first members of the European Rewilding Network.
Rewilding Europe is among the 10 leading international conservation organisations that endorsed “The Statement from Salamanca”, one of the two major policy initiatives of the 10th World Wilderness Congress (WILD10). This statement shows a strong commitment of the organisations to collaboration and practical, positive actions to make the world a wilder place.
Rewilding Europe was visually very present and thoroughly presented during WILD10, the World Wilderness Congress in Salamanca, Spain, 4–10 October. WILD10 was an unforgettable week of happenings, media attention, world-class speakers, meetings and intense discussions, for example about the concept of rewilding, both in a global and in a European setting.
Associação Transumância e Natureza (ATN) in partnership with Rewilding Europe is excited to launch an opportunity to develop and operate a boutique lodge/camp in the Faia Brava private nature reserve in the heart of Portugal’s Côa River Valley. The picturesque site is fully secured and available on a minimum 15 year leasehold basis.
The European Rewilding Network has officially been launched on October 9 during WILD10, the World Wilderness Congress in Salamanca, Spain. Our aim is to build a living network of many rewilding initiatives supporting rewilding in Europe as a conservation tool and as something to learn from and get inspired by.
