The 400,000-dollar grant will fund key activities in the Affric Highland rewilding landscape and support development of a new financial tool to boost rewilding.

A newly established rewilding site in northern Portugal, known as Ermo das Águias (‘wilderness of the eagles’), is providing an opportunity to improve landscape connectivity and promote the regeneration of native vegetation and enhance the benefits of natural grazing.

Our work to stabilize and strengthen interconnected populations of the Dalmatian pelican along the Black Sea-Mediterranean flyway has been recognised by the European Commission’s Natura 2000 Awards. Through reducing the risk of collisions with power lines, the installation of nesting platforms and establishing regular patrols, The Pelican Way of LIFE initiative has helped to create two new breeding colonies in Bulgaria.

Three female bison have just arrived in the Rhodope Mountains rewilding landscape in Bulgaria. They will soon join the area’s free-roaming bison herd, boosting its health and viability and positively impacting local wild nature.

Eight participants in Rewilding Europe’s Rewilding Training Tourism programme have successfully completed the final stage of their training. They are now well placed to develop their own rewilding-related business.

World Rewilding Day saw many of Rewilding Europe’s rewilding teams organise public events. Showcasing rewilding efforts, these brought people closer to nature.

A recent webinar gathered 30 participants from 11 European countries and India to learn about the Pelican Way of LIFE initiative, as work continues to improve conditions for Dalmatian pelicans along the Black Sea-Mediterranean Flyway.
