Humberto Tan visits Velebit and Apennines rewilding areas for National Geographic

A 25-minute documentary featuring renowned TV presenter and Dutch Postcode Lottery Ambassador Humberto Tan was released in Amsterdam today. Produced by New Earth Films productions and Buro JAM for National Geographic in the Netherlands, the documentary – titled “Door Het Oog” (“Through the Eye of” in English) – showcases Tan’s visits to the Velebit Mountains and Central Apennines in July and September. Here he shot photos of Rewilding Europe’s ongoing work, as well as local landscapes, wildlife and people.

Natural grazing in Croatian Lika Plains boosted

This month, the natural grazing area in Lika Plains in Croatia got another boost with the arrival of a herd of Tauros originating from The Netherlands. The 11 new animals joined the existing herd in the scenic grassy plains at the foothills of Velebit Mountains. The natural grazing area in Lika Plains recently expanded and is now covering 800 hectares.

Rewilding Europe and Canon – behind the scenes of our promotional film

In September, Rewilding Europe released its first promotional film about creating a wilder Europe. Canon France sponsored this film produced by Emmanuel Rondeau, a French cinematographer and film producer from White Fox Pictures. Emmanuel used the new CANON EOS-1D X Mark II camera to show its various features and the innovative filming technology. The promotional film has been seen by many people all across the world, and was received very well. Emmanuel also produced a short film that takes you behind the scene where Emmanuel gives his feedback on Canon’s new flagship DSLR.

Wildlife watching hides in Velebit open for guests

Over the last two years, a new venture into wildlife watching and simultaneous wildlife research led to the construction and set up of two wildlife hides in the Velebit Mountains. This summer the hides opened their doors to the public and have already shown to be a success in various fields. As an attractive new nature travel offering, the hides are a small but relevant step forward to further develop a nature-based economy in Croatian Velebit Mountains.
