Rewilding in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria is about to take an exciting step forward, with the local rewilding team preparing to carry out a wide range of measures in a new area.

Launched at the conclusion of a high-level gathering in Vienna, the European Rewilding Coalition brings together Europe’s leading practical rewilding organisations. By working together, the coalition membership will accelerate landscape-scale rewilding across the continent.

A diverse event calendar saw the Rewilding Apennines team engage with a wide range of people and local communities in 2022, helping to promote rewilding. Their efforts are driving the rewilding movement forward, with real momentum going into 2023.

Arcadia has just awarded Rewilding Europe a grant of 5 million dollars. The money will be used to advance European rewilding in three main areas, under the umbrella of our Strategic Plan 2021-2030.

A new way of evaluating rewilding progress has been developed by Rewilding Europe and partners. Its groundbreaking application across seven of Rewilding Europe’s operational areas – which has just been detailed in a new scientific paper – has revealed both positive impact and challenges to upscaling.

Rewilding Europe has commissioned a science-based overview of changes in the abundance and distribution of selected wildlife species in Europe. The updated Wildlife Comeback report will provide the latest and state-of-the-art insights, opportunities and challenges for wildlife comeback at a European scale.

The donation will be used to fund a range of key rewilding measures. These will continue the development of a wilder Velebit that supports a thriving wild nature and local economy.

The European Rewilding Network’s “Rewilding Intro” saw Dominic Buscall introduce the Wild Ken Hill initiative in the UK. The overall aim of these mini-webinars is to promote further exchange between network members and thereby enhance rewilding outcomes.
