The renaming of the Nordic Taiga rewilding landscape ushers in an exciting new chapter for rewilding in northern Sweden. The change emphasises Rewilding Sweden’s commitment to revitalise natural processes, support wildlife comeback, and forge deeper connections between people and nature.
A grant from the Open Rivers Programme has enabled the removal of a number of small dams in the catchment of the Vindel River, in the Nordic Taiga rewilding landscape. By enabling the free flow of water, this will help to revitalise waterscapes and the wildlife populations they support.

Rewilding Sweden has been carrying out river restoration work in Swedish Lapland since 2016. Newly funded efforts will now focus on removing barriers from the River Abramsån, promising benefits for migratory fish, local communities and wild nature.
Given a thumbs up by the local entrepreneurs who participated, the informative and inspirational event will hopefully boost rewilding-related nature-based tourism in the area.
