A rewilding showcase

The Rewilding Rhodopes multilingual site will educate and inspire a regional, national and international audience as rewilding efforts in the area are scaled up. The platform will showcase the work of the team, which includes restoring natural food chains through the availability of wild herbivore carcasses for scavenging species, and the reintroduction of red and fallow deer. Together with increasing numbers of bison and wild horses, a mosaic of habitats is emerging, enhancing biodiversity. Visit the website and you will find the latest news, interesting blogs, and stunning photography of the area’s most iconic species.

Activating rewilders

The new site aims to motivate more people to become actively involved in rewilding and contribute directly to species conservation. Through access to information on wild nature, reserves, events, species and habitats, it will enable identification of wildlife on the go. It will be regularly updated with new material, including the work of Europe’s finest wildlife photographers, documentary makers, conservationists, writers and bloggers; as well as the efforts of team members, volunteers and entrepreneurs.

“We are thrilled to launch this great-looking site and encourage even more people to follow and engage with our rewilding work and efforts,” says Rewilding Rhodopes team leader Stoycho Stoychev.

Providing information in English, Bulgarian and Greek, it will act as a hub, presenting rewilding-related updates about one of Europe’s last great wilderness areas and biodiversity hotspots – the magnificent Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria.

Following Vultures

The site will also share news, publications, and fascinating stories from the LIFE Vulture project and many more upcoming initiatives, including wildlife protection and restoration causes. One eagerly anticipated feature will be the live vulture tracker, presenting the flight paths of tagged vultures in (almost) real-time.
